Week Nine: Space + Art
This week's discussion about space and art was an interesting topic that was introduced to me. The history of space and the continuous discoveries that scientists make every day are mind-blowing. In Professor Vesna's lecture, she talked about important astronomers including Nicolaus Copernicus, who came up with the heliocentric model of the solar system. This model placed the sun in the middle of our solar system and was proven mathematically by Copernicus. There are many pieces of art that depict his theories as well as paintings of him that have been done by artists such as Jan Metejko.

Another aspect of the connection between space and art can be seen in movies and television. Recent movies such as Interstellar and Voyagers have combined the art of filmmaking with concepts of outer space. Both of these movies are trying to save humankind by relocating to another habitable planet after Earth is unliveable.
Other shows mentioned by Professor Vesna in her lecture including The Jetsons and Star Wars, are very popular shows that many fanatics enjoy. The Jetsons was a popular show produced in the 1960s that focused on a futuristic and utopian society. One of the highest-grossing film franchises is Star Wars which has several movies as well as tv shows. These movies and tv series all take place in space and incorporate space ships with an ever-growing plot, which makes it super enjoyable!
There is an ever-growing interest in finding out what outer space holds and art is one way of expressing creativity relating to space.
